Description:

Serves as the provider of and coordinator of services delivered to students. Such services include, but are not limited to, academic counseling, mental health counseling, and social work services.  Is part of a district team that coordinates/provides these services at all levels, a team that includes the Secondary Guidance Counselor, the School Psychologist/Director of Special Education, and outside service providers in the areas of mental health and social work.  Additional duties may be assigned by the building principals.

Reports to:  Elementary School Principals

Duties:

  1. Participate in, coordinate and conduct activities that contribute to the effective operation of the counseling program and school;
  2. Counsel individuals and small groups of children toward personal, social and emotional growth for effective school participation;
  3. Consult with and train teachers, parents and staff regarding children’s needs;
  4. Support the needs of all students within the classroom including students with disabilities and students who are talented and gifted by providing materials, information and support to classroom teachers;
  5. Support families in securing services for students with appropriate referrals;
  6. Participate in and facilitate the intervention assistance team process;
  7. Accurately and appropriately use assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counseling services;
  8. Coordinate school-wide testing programs and assist with administration of special testing such as the KRAL, etc.;
  9. Interpret test data to teachers, administrators, parents and students;
  10. Implement an orientation plan for new students and parents as well as prepare students for transition to the secondary school;
  11. Ensure confidentiality of counseling sessions, conferences, student records, etc.;
  12. Pursue continuous professional growth;
  13. Assist school administration with preparing master schedule and scheduling of students;
  14. Assist school administration in planning and conducting special nights and events such as concerts, family nights, etc.;
  15. Coordinate the provision of services provided by outside providers including but not limited to mental health counseling and social work;

Qualifications:

  1. Appropriate State of Ohio licensure
  2. Knowledge of current state and federal educational standards and reporting procedures
  3. Strong writing and speaking skills
  4. Ability to work with children and adults from a wide variety of backgrounds.
  5. Note: The Superintendent and Board are willing to consider individuals with qualifications alternative to those stated above.
  6. It is also noted that if an applicant lacks appropriate computer, EMIS, Powerschool or other skills those must be obtained during the summer prior to initiating employment.

Additional Working Conditions:

  1. This position will have a teacher contract with an additional 10 days of extended service for use at the end and beginning of the school year.
