Position Overview:

Glenwood Middle School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Middle School Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will be committed to promoting academic achievement, personal growth, and social-emotional well-being among our diverse student body. As a Middle School Counselor, you will play a critical role in helping students navigate the challenges of adolescence, set meaningful goals, and elevate the skills they need to thrive in school and beyond.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Student Support and Advocacy:

  • Provide individual and group counseling to support students' academic, emotional, and social development.
  • Advocate for the needs of all students, ensuring they have access to necessary resources and support services.
  • Develop and implement personalized plans to help students set and achieve their academic and personal goals.
  • Monitor student progress and collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to address any concerns.

Academic Guidance:

  • Assist students in course selection and academic planning to ensure they are on track for future educational goals.
  • Provide information and resources about advanced academic opportunities, such as honors classes and extracurricular activities.
  • Implement programs to support students with diverse learning needs and challenges.

Social-Emotional Development:

  • Develop and deliver social-emotional learning (SEL) programs and activities to promote a healthy school climate.
  • Facilitate workshops and presentations on topics such as stress management, conflict resolution, and self-esteem.
  • Offer crisis intervention and support for students experiencing personal or family challenges.

Career and Future Planning:

  • Guide students in exploring career interests and options, including providing information about high school pathways and post-secondary opportunities.
  • Coordinate career exploration activities, such as job shadowing, guest speakers, and field trips.

Parent and Community Engagement:

  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to keep them informed about their child's progress and any concerns.
  • Develop partnerships with community organizations to enhance support services and opportunities for students.
  • Organize and participate in parent-teacher conferences, workshops, and school events.

Collaboration and Professional Development:

  • Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other school staff to create a cohesive support system for students.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in school counseling and student support.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of school policies and programs that promote student well-being and success.

Data Management and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of student interactions, progress, and outcomes.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement in counseling services and student support programs.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for school leadership and stakeholders as needed.
